UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya apologized after saying on social media that he would “rape” compatriot Kevin Holland. Adesanya, of Nigerian descent, posted a swearing video on Instagram earlier this week directed at Holland, who had focused him in a collection of remarks. The 31-year-old, who at the moment resides in New Zealand, later deleted the video and stated he had ‘crossed the road'.
“I understand the seriousness of this word and how it can affect and hurt other people besides my opponent, even though it was never my intention,” Adesanya tweeted right here.
“I'm still growing up in the spotlight, and I'm taking this as a lesson to be more selective with words under pressure.”
Adesanya's apology got here after Grant Robertson, New Zealand's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Sport and Recreation, condemned his remark.
“We have to take rape seriously. It's not an issue that anyone should be joking around or making flippant comments about, ”Robertson stated.
Adesanya was undefeated in MMA with a 20-0 file till he was defeated by Jan Blachowicz in a light-weight heavyweight title sport at UFC 259 on March 6.
