The creation of a backyard had been thought out throughout the renovation tasks, when the Massane golf course was acquired by the Montpellier group Eoden. This first stage has simply been accomplished.
Nearly two years have been wanted to remodel a cereal plot, at the again of the golf course, into an enormous vegetable backyard of practically one hectare, divided symmetrically by a central path with cultivable plots on either side.
A land that needed to be made fertile
A titanic job was carried out with ardour by Rachel Fougeirol, cultivation supervisor, Gaël Joly, Eoden Nature director and Loïc Bruté de Rémur, improvement supervisor of the Eoden Nature Gardens.
“This land was as if dead”explains Loïc to David Carbonell, deputy mayor in command of ecology, sustainable improvement and power financial savings, significantly delicate to the Massane mission which offers for the recycling of wastewater, use of compost, crop rotation, in two phrases: constructive ecology.
“ We brought 300 tons of compost and natural fertilizers such as guano, spread over 15 centimeters in height, continues Loic. The earth has come back to life because before feeding the plants that feed people, you have to feed the soil. “ Rachel confirms: “ They are vegetable crops on living soil that does not need chemical fertilizers to produce. Biodiversity takes hold naturally. In fact, it is a return to the peasant tradition. “
Loïc seizes the alternative to make clear his goal: “The intensive use of chemical fertilizers has limits. Today, many market gardeners are returning to natural techniques without rejecting modernity, such as, here, the hydraulic network connected and controlled from a smartphone.”
As a part of the renovation of the Massane website, this vegetable backyard will provide the future restaurant with recent produce. “And soon, these vegetables will be on the golf food truck menu. As for the surplus, it will be offered to everyone in the form of gift baskets”, informs Rachel. Loic concludes: “I would like the vegetable garden of Massane to become a reference, a place for courses and educational visits for children.”
