Each yr, the PE lecturers at Lycée Galilée, at Franqueville-Saint-Pierre (Seine-Maritime) are organizing a solidarity race to assist the‘humanitarian affiliation Action against Hunger. The 10th edition took place on Saturday, May 22, 2021, to counter a bewildering actuality: “every 10 seconds, in the world, a child dies of hunger”, recollects the affiliation.
10,000 euros collected in 2019
In 2019, 750 high school students ran two kilometers round the institution and picked up round 10,000 euros in donations from their sponsors and for the profit of malnourished kids in Chad. “Of the 1,300 high schools participating in France, the Galilée high school is one of the best. On average, each establishment donates 3,000 euros, although we have succeeded in donating 10,000 euros, ”emphasizes Professor Franck Levasseur.
Only, the pandemic has modified the scenario. In 2020, the race was canceled. Despite every part, 295 euros have been nonetheless given to the affiliation. But nothing would have made the organizers and members abandon.
Surpassing oneself and solidarity
For this 10th edition, “we wish to assist the kids of the Democratic Republic of Congo. We imagined a race against hunger over two weeks, that’s to say 34 races. In half-groups, every class involves run for an hour and every high school scholar covers the absolute best distance on a 1,000-meter circuit, inside the Galileo gymnasium, explains the instructor. It is a large chain of solidarity. We purpose to exceed 10,000 euros! “
Teachers and staff are also committed to this great cause.
Principal Gilles Richard specifies: “Two things stand out in this action. First, the sense of effort and surpassing oneself, notions that are being lost more and more at the level of young people in particular, during this period of Covid. Then, a great value, that of solidarity. Young people are very sensitive to it. The vast majority are starters, and all this is only possible with the will of the organizing teams. “
