Formula 1 is predicted to check a special weekend format in three races this 12 months. A shorter qualifying race ought to be added and a qualifying session would then be held on Friday afternoon.
Antonio Giovinazzi notes similarities with the F2 format, though F1 has deserted the inverted grid, which was frowned upon.
“In the past I have tested things like this in F2 even though it was different since there was the inverted grid” notes the Italian. “F1 is always trying to test something new and that’s what’s happening this year. It’s not a bad idea.”
Robert Kubica won’t be able to check this format however he doubts that will probably be an efficient answer: “I can say that as a spectator because it is not expected that I will do them. In the end it will not make a big difference, I don’t think the format is a key point to improve the show in F1.”
As for Kimi Raikkönen, true to himself, he didn’t appear extra disturbed than that through the presentation of the C41: “we will see !”
