Formula 1 | Domenicali: 23 or 24 races in 2023, South Africa close to a contract

(*24*) Domenicali, CEO of F1, instructed L'Equipe that a French Grand Prix in Nice was the topic of a challenge (learn right here).

But the Italian can also be chargeable for composing a calendar with many races that need to have a place. How far will the FOM go when now we have not succeeded, once more this 12 months, in having 23 Grands Prix?

“Next year's calendar is being prepared. To have 30 GPs would not be reasonable. Our preferred option would be to keep 23 or 24 races.”

“And to achieve this, depending on the demand, we will work with the principle of rotation – not only for Europe but also for other countries.”

“I came back from South Africa, we are a world championship and Africa has no place on the calendar at the moment. That has to change.”

“Discussions are progressing and I think we will have an answer soon. To have a race there while Lewis Hamilton is still competing would be great.”

Some races have come below criticism, reminiscent of Jeddah.

“We by no means thought-about leaving Saudi Arabia [après l’attaque terroriste]. I believe it will be a political and sporting mistake. The race was fabulous with this duel between Charles and Max. And I believe F1 has a function to play.”
