The third edition of the DRHEAM-CUP will take place! The French Sailing Federation having confirmed its favorable opinion on June 10, after discussions with the competent authorities, the way is now free to obtain the agreements of the prefectural authorities and thus launch the first major multi-class race of the season, on Sunday July 19. Three routes between Cherbourg-en-Cotentin and La Trinité-sur-Mer will be offered, open to Ultimes, Imoca, Multi50, Class40, Multi 2000, Open large monohulls, IRC, Classic Yachts and Figaro Beneteau. Registration is open until June 30.
After several weeks of uncertainty linked to the Covid-19 pandemic that hit France and the whole world, the French Sailing Federation, after discussions on June 5 with the various competent authorities, confirmed its “sporting green light” for the DRHEAM-CUP 2020 this Wednesday 10 June to Jacques Civilise, its organizer, as well as to the town hall of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin. It now remains to receive formal authorizations from maritime and land prefectures. These authorizations inevitably go through a reformatting of the event which will be summed up this year to the race and will for the first time bypass the popular festival on land which traditionally accompanies the big races in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin.
An announcement welcomed with satisfaction by Jacques Civilise who, since mid-March, has worked hard to ensure that this third edition can be held in compliance with the health rules decreed by the government: “I would especially like to thank the French Sailing Federation which has worked so that certain sailing competitions can resume in July. I would especially like to thank our partners, first of all the cities of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, extremely active in “saving” the race, and of La Trinité-sur-Mer, who have never stopped supporting us during all this hard time. “
The start of the third edition of the DRHEAM-CUP, organized in collaboration with the Yacht Club de France, support club for the race, the UNCL, the Yacht-Club of Cherbourg and the Société Nautique de La Trinité-sur-Mer, is now scheduled for Sunday July 19 (see the program below). Faithful to its OPEN racing DNA, open to all, it will offer three courses (crewed, double or solo) between Cherbourg-en-Cotentin and La Trinité-sur-Mer: the DRHEAM-CUP 1100, reserved for Ultimate trimarans, the DRHEAM-CUP 700 (Multi50, Imoca, Class40, Multi 2000, Open large monohulls) and the DRHEAM-CUP 400 (Figaro Beneteau – the race qualifies for the Solitaire du Figaro 2020 -, IRC, Classic Yachts).

To allow all teams and sailors to organize, the registration deadline has been extended to June 30. “This DRHEAM-CUP, which will be the first major multi-class race of the season on our coasts, should give rise to very beautiful nautical jousts in view of the plateau we are waiting for, with, as always, a great diversity of boats and competitor profiles ”, rejoices Jacques Civilise.
The exceptional situation linked to the health crisis led the organizer and its partners to take special measures to limit contact to the bare essentials between people during this third edition: the DRHEAM-TROPHY and the Large Dreams operation which the support are thus exceptionally removed, the program in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin has been tightened, there will be no race village or entertainment on land, while the award ceremony will take place in December at the Nautic in Paris. “We are certainly forced to make improvements, and in particular to do without a village, but the“ DRHEAM ”DNA of the race, which is based on the“ HR ”of“ HUMAN RELATIONS ”, will remain very present and we will do everything to welcome participants, professionals and amateurs, in the best possible way, ”promises Jacques Civilise.
See you on July 16 on the pontoons of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin.
They said :
Benoit Arrivé, Mayor of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin: “The DRHEAM-CUP will not be held in all its dimensions: it was impossible under current conditions to keep the village and entertainment part. However on the nautical level, it will be the first large multi-class offshore race since containment, open to professionals and amateurs. For the Ultimes, these giant multihulls the DRHEAM-CUP will even be the only race this year. For the Figaro Beneteaux, the race will be a qualifier for the Solitaire du Figaro 2020. Cherbourg-en-Cotentin fought for this race to take place and to show that it is and remains one of the major French ports for yachting and offshore racing, especially in this complicated period. And the DRHEAM-CUP is for us the opportunity to show that the city, the Cotentin and the department of Manche are among the most beautiful sailing spots in France. The start of Le Becquet then at the foot of the Hague cliffs and between the Channel Islands will show it. “
Yves Le Blevec, deputy mayor of La Trinité-sur-Mer, in charge of boating and tourism:
“It is good news to see races organized the second half of July, it is made possible because the health situation is easing. So much so that we are working with the Société Nautique de La Trinité to organize a one-way race between La Trinité and Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, replacing La Trinité-Cowes. This would be an opportunity for participants to go to the start of the DRHEAM-CUP in the race. We feel in La Trinité-sur-Mer a real frustration on the part of enthusiasts, we had no race start in 2020 because of the bad weather first then the Covid crisis. A lot of IRCs are preparing at the moment, we all feel a real desire to race. The reception of the DRHEAM-CUP will necessarily be lightened because it is necessary to remain careful and to respect the sanitary rules in place, We are however working on the implementation of a small animation on the quays to highlight the traders of Trinité-sur-Mer. “
