Former Springbok center Danie Gerber attended a day of golf with members of the famous 1981 team before being diagnosed with Covid-19.
Gerber tested positive for coronavirus on Friday while at home in Port Elizabeth.
The Sunday newspaper Report reported that members of the 1981 Springbok team that toured New Zealand played golf with Gerber, staying at Jan Kempdorp's Border Hotel last Saturday.
The players were Henning van Aswegen, Burger Geldenhuys, Divan Serfontein, Robbie Blair, Colin Beck, Richard Prentis and Gysie Pienaar.
Gerber said he started feeling the effects of the virus on Thursday – just four days after the golf day.
He also confirmed that his 36-year-old daughter tested positive for Covid-19.
“My wife has now left home so that I and Elanie can isolate ourselves for two weeks,” said Gerber.
The report added that at least one of the former players who socialized with Gerber has started showing flu-like symptoms.
